Overview

The Free Point Indicating Tool is developed to determine the free-point depth of stuck drill pipe. It measures pipe stretch and torque. A CCL is included in the string for depth correlation. After free-point determination, a back-off shot is made to release the stuck pipe.

Composition

The Portable Surface Panel is a surface unit for FPIT, which process and displays the signals from downhole pulsed tool and passive CCL. The unit is also used as a DC source.
The CCL23 is used in FPIT string for depth correction

The Anchoring Cartridge is a 4-arm DC motor-driven anchoring tool to anchor the FPIT string against the inner face of the stuck pipe for operation. It ensures the string centered and fixed in the pipe in the targeted interval and keeps their movements in line for accurate measurement.

The Electronic Cartridge is used to control the switch between 6 statuses and also as the electronic section for sensor cartridge to process and transmit signals.

The Sensing Cartridge is a measurement tool for torque and stretch in FPIT, which transform the pipe torque and stretch to electronic signals for processing in electronics and transmitting to surface for determing pipe movement.
