Subsurface safety valves 

Subsurface safety valves are an integral part of the well completions that protect production installations against uncontrolled flow from producing wells in case of catastrophic damage to wellhead equipment.

 

A subsurface safety valve must be pressure-equalized above and below the flapper before opening. The self-equalizing mechanism allows shut-in pressure below the valve to be vented to the tubing above the flapper. This equalizes the system, enabling the valve to be opened through hydraulic control-line pressure.

 

 

Super Safety Valve

The Super Safety Valve is controlled by two hydraulic lines and contains a chemical injection port.  It is designed to close by spring force but has a nitrogen charge chamber to quicken the closing time.  This feature gives the valve the ability to cut wireline and coiled tubing without the addition of balance line pressure.  The valve is held open by maintaining hydraulic control pressure on the control line.
